What is Royal Insanity
Royal Insanity is my personal brand. It is how I showcase and display my Personal and Professional Design experience.
My name is Jarrett Perkins. I am a budding Artist and Graphic Designer. I graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, and a minor in Art History, from the University of Kentucky (UK). While there I specialized in Sculpture and Digital Design, and improved my formal artistic skill sets.
I have professional design and production experience from my time working as a freelance designer and as a professional Graphic Designer for Tactical Gear Junkie (TGJ), a military and police morale patch company. For more info, Click ABOUT!
I’m passionate about imagination & creating, I love to work with my hands and challenge my self creatively. I’ve spent my life pursuing new knowledge and skills so that I can create more, so I can make my own reality.
Because of this I have many artistic skills and tools that I can put to use for you.
If you have any creative endeavors, but lack the skills (or just the equipment) to make them yourself, then please contact Me!(Click CONTACT)
What can Royal Insanity do for you?
"Jack of all trades, master of none; better than a master of one."
I consider myself a Jack of All Things. I catch on pretty easily to new experiences and I love expanding my horizons. Because of that and my passion to create I have developed a varied set of skills as well as grown my collection of tools and equipment that I can put to use for you.
The following is a list of my various experiences and the services I can provide.
If you need creative assistance in any form I may be able to help you.
If there is something you don't see that still relates to creativity, design, or construction please let me know. I am always looking to expand my skill set!
5 Years Graphic Design Experience
Since the beginning of college I have done freelance design jobs for friends and assorted clients. Following graduation from UK, I worked as a professional Graphic Designer for TGJ. I have accrued 5 years of Professional Design experience that I can offer to those in need. (See About)
3D Printing
Among the various tools I have collected I also own a 3D Printer, a Prusa i3 MK2. I have the skills to create custom prints, or if you already have a 3D Model and no way to print it I can do it for you.
*Due to only having one printer, I am limited to only printing medium and UP size models.
Wood Working
I used to build stuff in the garage with my dad, then I received formal training in the UK Woodshop, and now I have turned my garage into my own personal woodshop. I have made things that range from small wooden dolls, to my own kitchen bar.
With my assortment of tools and skills I can build most anything I put my mind to, for me and you.
3D Modeling
While attending UK I took classes in the Fab Lab, a new media department that focused on creating art with advances in technology. There I studied several methods of digital modeling, learning how to take my formal artistic training and use it to create compelling 3D models. Whether its a geometric mock up or an organic sculpture I can handle it.
Traditional Mediums
The UK curriculum focused around traditional Fine Art, like what you would find in an Art Museum. As such I have skills in all of the traditional methods creative design: acrylic painting, charcoal drawing, pastel, pencil/pen, sculpture, etc.
Metal Working
At UK I focused on Sculpture as my primary medium so I spent a lot of time in the UK Metal Shop. While there I learned how to use a variety of metal working tools and processes: welding, forging, metal casting, etc.
*Unfortunately I am currently incapable of creating large metal pieces as I do not have any metal working equipment.
Animation
Early on in college I took 2 animation classes, and I fell in love with the medium. I learned 2D Animation (via Adobe Flash) and 3D (via Autodesk 3DS Max), and in my own time I have played around with Stop Motion Animation (or Claymation). Unfortunately I could not cultivate this skill as UK did not have any formal animation classes.
*Currently unable to do 3D Animation due to lack of software.
Photo Editing
I'm not a Master Photoshopper, however the skill does come with being a graphic designer. If you need something touched up such as red eyes removed, a lightsabers glow around a stick, or a person added to a picture then let me know.
Resin/Mold making and Casting
Mold Making is the process of creating negatives of 3D objects by pouring malleable materials (like silicone) around an object. After the mold solidifies the object is removed leaving a negative impression which can then be filled with other pourable materials like resin. This creates a copy of the original object. Casting was a big part of the UK Sculpture curriculum and since graduation I have invested in my own casting equipment.
Book Making
In my final year at UK I took an elective class called Book Making. In this class I learned how to do various book binding techniques that I used to make my own books, from journals and notepads to fancier story books. If you want a personal book or journal I may be able to help.
*Not for mass production, but rather special Custom Books
Cosplay Design/Creation
I am currently learning how to work with Cosplay materials: EVA foam, LED lights, and prop design. I am still in the process of learning this craft, however I have made several costumes in the past for myself and friends and I look forward to improving the quality of my costumes.
Sewing/Soft Crafts
I'm no seamster, but throughout my creative life I've had to sew on many projects. Therefore, I have the necessary skills to make basic clothing, stuffed animals, and I can even help with sewing repairs.
Laser Cutting
Also in UK's Fab Lab was a Laser Cutter, which I learned to operate and use to make Fine Art. After graduation while working at TGJ I got to assist in the creation and production of Laser Cut Patches. This worked to further expand my laser cutting experience, teaching me to use the laser in more practical and industrial means.
*Unfortunately I am incapable of creating laser cut pieces as I do not have a personal laser.
Trash Collection
If you have old furniture, broken equipment, spare wood, scrap metal, or really just any interesting objects then please let me know, you'd be surprised what old things can be made into. I can come pick things up or you can drop it off. If its free and you don't know how to get rid of it, let me know! (See Contact)
*Pick up is only available in the area of Lexington, Kentucky.
